Under the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Second Amendment) Rules of 2017, all the Mutual Fund and asset management companies must record the Aadhaar number information from the fundholders and then review the information with UIDAI. After successful verification, they have to link all the Mutual Fund accounts with their respective Aadhaar.

This process of linking Aadhaar to Mutual Funds can be completed via four modes. The linking mode can be selected by the fundholder as per personal convenience.

Who Should Link Aadhaar with Mutual Funds?

  • All the Mutual Fund holders including the primary holder, joint holder, guardian holders for minors, POA(Power of Attorney) holders, or the children’s schemes donors. All the above-mentioned should have their Aadhaar linked with Mutual Funds.

  • Residents from the state of Jammu & Kashmir, Meghalaya, and Assam are exempted from linking Aadhaar with Mutual Funds.

  • All signatories of firms, cooperative societies, and companies must submit their Aadhaar card information.

  • For investments initiated by HUFs, the Karta of the HUF has to submit all the Aadhaar card details.

Link your Aadhaar with Mutual Funds via Offline methods

The offline method through which you can link your Aadhaar with the Mutual Funds without any hassle is by visiting your fund manager's office.

The steps to link Aadhaar with Mutual Funds offline are -

  • Step 1: Fill out the application form of Aadhaar linking. Enter all the required information including the Mutual Fund information and Aadhaar card details.
  • Step 2: Submit the form along with a copy of your Aadhaar card at the nearest customer service centre of your fund manager institution.
  • Step 3: You will receive a confirmation notification on your registered mobile number on successful linking of Aadhaar card.

Steps to Link Aadhaar and Mutual Funds with CAMS

You can easily link your Aadhaar card to Mutual Funds online via the CAMS portal. Separate links are available for all categories like individuals, non-individuals, and HUFs.

Follow the following steps -

  • Step 1: Go to the Aadhaar card linking website of CAMS.
  • Step 2: From the visible options, select the type - HUF, individual or non-individuals.
  • Step 3: In the provided space, fill in your PAN details.
  • Step 4: Now, you have to enter the details like name, DOB, Aadhaar card number, gender, and contact details. Tap on ‘Generate OTP’.
  • Step 5: You will receive an OTP on the registered mobile number.
  • Step 6: Fill in the OTP, right tick the disclaimer, and then tap on the ‘Submit’ option.
  • Step 7: After you submit the OTP, your request will be sent. A verification process will take place and then your Mutual Funds will be linked with your Aadhaar card.

Steps to Complete Mutual Funds-Aadhaar Linking with KARVY

If the registrar of your Mutual Funds is Karvy, then follow these steps -

  • Step 1: Go to the official portal of Karvy.
  • Step 2: Tap on the ‘Link your Aadhaar’ option.
  • Step 3: Below the online Aadhaar linking section, enter your PAN details and tap on the ‘Generate OTP’ option.
  • Step 4: An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number or the registered email ID.
  • Step 5: Right tick the consent agreement box and give your confirmation.
  • Step 6: In the provided space, fill your Aadhaar number and ‘Submit’ it.
  • Step 7: After you submit your request will be sent. A verification process will take place and then all the Mutual Funds linked with your PAN will now be associated with your Aadhaar card as well.

**Note - Make sure that your mobile number is already linked with your Aadhaar card before you start the process to avoid any hassle.

How to Link Mutual Funds and Aadhaar with Franklin Templeton Portal?

If your Mutual fund registrar is Franklin Templeton, you can use the FT website to link Aadhaar with the Mutual Funds linking process. You can not use any other website other than the FT portal to complete the linking process. Follow these simple steps -

  • Step 1: Go to the FT portal.
  • Step 2: Tap on the ‘Customer Service’ button.
  • Step 3: Below the instant services section, choose the ‘Update Aadhaar number’ button.
  • Step 4: You will be redirected to a new page where you will have to fill in your PAN details in the given box.
  • Step 5: Now, enter other important details like DOB, Previous transaction amount, Pin Code, and click on ‘Next’.
  • Step 6: You will also now have to provide the details of the bank account that is associated with the FT in the investment procedure.
  • Step 7: Fill in the unique 12-digit identification number in the provided space and submit it.
  • Step 8: After you submit your request will be sent. A verification process will take place and then all the Mutual Funds linked with your PAN will now be associated with your Aadhaar card as well.

If you are a new investor or if you have an investment in not more than one fund house, you can complete the linking process even after investing. Here is the step-by-step easy procedure of linking the Aadhaar card with Mutual Funds accounts by registering with the Mutual Fund houses -

  • Step 1: Visit the concerned fund house’s web page.
  • Step 2: Enter your PAN details.
  • Step 3: Choose the ‘You are not KYC compliant’ option.
  • Step 4: Enter the Aadhaar card registered mobile number and other required details properly.

Steps to Link Aadhaar and Mutual Funds Account Using SMS

The steps for using the SMS method to link Aadhaar cards with Mutual Funds are -

  • Step 1: Compose an SMS in the following format - ADRLN<space>Your PAN<spce>Your Aadhaar<space>Y.
  • Step 2: Add +91 9212993399 as a recipient.
  • Step 3: The Y in the message format is used as proof of consent. It is used by Karvy to authenticate and link your Aadhaar card with Mutual Funds.
  • Step 4:You will receive a confirmation notification on your registered mobile number on successful linking of Aadhaar card.
  • Step 5: It is mandatory to have your Aadhaar card linked with your CAMS, Sundaram BNP and Franklin Templeton managed Mutual Funds.

**Note - One can take benefit of this feature only if the mobile number is linked with the Mutual Fund.

✔️How do you link Mutual Fund accounts?

You can easily link your Aadhaar card with your Mutual Fund accounts using either the offline or online modes. For online methods, you just have to visit the concerned Mutual Fund registrar's website and enter the required details. For offline mode, you will have to visit the nearest service centre of the registrar and then submit the filled application form along with the required documents.

✔️Can I invest in Mutual Funds without Aadhaar?
