Owing to the recent spike in Covid cases across the country, the West Bengal government has decided to postpone its Duare Sarkar and Students Credit Card programme. Both the events were slated to be held from January 2; however, they have now been postponed till further updated owing to rising cases.
As per the official government website, “The Duare Sarkar programme is an initiative by the Bengal state government, spread over 30 days, for delivery of specific schemes of State government at the doorsteps of people through outreach campus organised at the level of gram panchayat and municipal ward level”. The Student credit card scheme is another government initiative under which students can avail collateral security free loans up to ₹10 lakh to pursue secondary, higher secondary, undergraduate, postgraduate, or professional courses. Loans taken under this student credit card will have a repayment period of 15 years from the time of availing the loan.
However, owing to the sudden rise in Covid cases, the State government has decided to postpone the West Bengal Student Credit Card programme to avoid crowding of people, as a precautionary measure. The government issued a formal notice stating “(The) ‘Duare Sarkar’ programme has been postponed for now and will be held subsequently. The dates for the same will be communicated in due course”.
