Novel Coronavirus (or COVID-19) has shaken the entire world with fear within a short span of time. This new strain of virus with symptoms similar to common cold or flu, leading to serious respiratory disorders in severe cases. Even though this virus is not fatal in most cases, there is no cure for it as yet, hence causing panic among people.

This virus originated in the city of Wuhan in China, after which it spread rapidly across the entire world. So far, there have been 2,27,495 confirmed cases worldwide and 9,303 reported deaths. In India, there have been over 151 confirmed cases and 4 reported deaths so far.

Common symptoms of this virus include fever, dry cough, shortness of breath and in severe cases, pneumonia or acute respiratory disorders. According to statistics, only 1 out of 5 cases require hospitalization whereas others can be cured without any special care.

But there is no need to panic. Staying precautious is the only way to ensure that the you are well protected. With the right preventive measures, this outbreak can be managed well.

Here what you can do to stay safe from the virus –

  • Clean your hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based sanitizer
  • Cover your nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing
  • Follow social distancing and avoid going out as much as you can
  • Wear a mask when visiting crowded places and maintain a distance of at least one meter from people who are sick
  • Get information about the outbreak from verified sources only.
