The procedure of getting a duplicate licence is simple and quick.

You can apply for a duplicate driving licence in online and offline modes. Currently, the facility of getting an online duplicate driving licence is not available in all the states of India.

To check whether your state RTO renders this facility, you can visit the official RTO portal of your state.

The steps that you need to follow for getting a duplicate driving licence are 

  • Online

  • Visit the RTO portal and fill out the LLD application form.

  • Scan all the required documents and upload them along with the application form.

  • Get a printout of the LLD form.

  • Submit the form along with the important documents to the RTO that generated your driving license in the first place.

  • Within 30 days of LLD form submission, you will get your duplicate driving licence through speed post.

  • A receipt will be provided by the RTO that you can use as an alternative to your driving licence until you receive your duplicate DL.

  • Offline

  • Visit the RTO office which issued your driving licence originally.

  • Fill out the application form and submit it along with the required documents.

  • You will also have to submit documents mentioning the reason for the requirement for a duplicate driving licence.

  • You will be provided with a receipt by the RTO that you can use as an alternative to your driving licence until you receive the duplicate DL through speed post.

To get a duplicate driving licence without any hassle, it is indeed important to be well aware of all the necessary details about the application procedure. Here are some major points of the same -

  • The applicant must fill in all primary details like name, mobile number, address, etc., in the application form, exactly written in the original driving license.

  • Along with the personal details, the applicant will also have to mention the reason for the requirement for a duplicate licence.

  • In case the original driving license was destroyed, torn, robbed, defaced, or lost, the applicant must have mentioned situations under which the incident happened.

  • The applicant will also have to enter details like the previous licence number, vehicle class of the original driving licence, licencing authority, etc.
