Driving Licence Test Process in Punjab

The driving test is standardised across India and is conducted under the supervision of a Motor Vehicle Inspector at the RTO branch. Your vehicle must be of the same vehicle class as specified on the application form. There are two main types of driving tests you should be aware of.

Test for a Two- or Three-Wheeler

The driving test for a two- or a three-wheeler involves checking if you can drive the vehicle in a figure resembling the number 8. This number will be marked in a specific area.

During this process, ensure that your feet do not touch the ground or the side rails. Once you clear this, you can proceed to the road test. In a road test, you will need to drive for a specified distance following proper traffic rules and regulations.

Test for a Four-Wheeler

This test also follows a similar structure but here the figure is the alphabet H. As you drive, make sure to steer clear of obstacles placed in the way. Following this, you must pass the road test. However, if you fail this test, you can retake it after 7 days by paying a nominal fee.
