The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is a scheme launched in 2015 to offer affordable housing to Indian citizens. Under the PMAY’s Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS), beneficiaries can avail a subsidy of 6.50% on home loans. Since the PM Awas Yojana document checklist is quite extensive, you can use this guide to keep the documents handy before you apply for this government scheme.

Identity Proof Documents

  • Voter card

  • Valid driving licence

  • Aadhaar card

  • Passport 

  • Any government issued ID card carrying a photo  

  • Verified letter from a government worker carrying photographs will also work

Address Proof Documents

  • Copy of the driving licence

  • Aadhaar card

  • Voter ID 

  • Ration card

  • Utility bills such as electricity bills, gas bills, phone bills, etc.

  • Passport

  • Notarized rent agreement

  • Letter by the employer on the company letterhead

  • Bank statement from PO or post office

  • Bank statements carrying your address details

  • Credit card statements

  • Property tax receipt which you have paid

  • Verified letter from a government worker carrying the photograph of the applicant

  • LIC or Life Insurance Policy certificate

  • Self or family pension payments orders

  • Copy of the property deal 

  • Employers presented leave and licence agreement, which allocates official accommodations

  • Government documents from the department of a foreign jurisdiction or letter issued by a foreign embassy may also work

  • Shareholding pattern list

  • PAN card

  • Sales Tax details

  • NO issued by ROC Registration

  • Memorandum of Association or MOA

  • Partnership deed

  • SSI Registration Certificate

  • Shops and Establishment Certificate

  • Certificate of VAT Registration

  • Factory Registration Certificate

  • Code Certificate of Export-Import

  • Certificate of SEBI Registration

  • Professional qualification Certificate

  • Trade Licence Certificate

  • Degree Certificate for Professionals

  • Documents related to the loan repayment

  • Repayment bank statements for the last 6 months if you have an ongoing loan

Income proof documents for a salaried employee:

  • Last two months' salary slip

  • Bank statement for the last 6 months

  • Form 16 or ITR

 

Income proof documents for a self-employed applicant:

  • ITR of last 2 years

  • P&L sheet

  • Balance sheet

  • Statement of Current Account for last six months

  • Factory establishment certificate

  • Trade licence

  • SEBI certificate

  • SSI registration

  • PAN card

  • VAT registration

  • Sales tax and deed receipt

  • Factory registration certificate

  • ROC issued a registration number

  • Partnership deed, etc.

Property Documents

  • Allotment Letter copy

  • Agreement to Sell document

  • The document of a complete chain property

  • Declaration proving that the beneficiary does not own a pucca house

  • Construction Agreement with the builder, Valuation Certificate for the prospective property, Advance payment receipt, in case of property under construction declaration

  • Processing Fee Cheques from the salary account in the case of a salaried individual and business account for a self-employed individual

  • NOC from the Housing Society

What are the documents required for PMAY for a salaried person?

The following Awas Yojana documents are needed in the case of a salaried person are:

  • ID Proof can be an Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, DL or driving licence, etc

  • Address proof can be an Aadhaar card, voter card, credit card statement of the last 3 months, receipt of property tax payment, LIC or Life Insurance Policy, etc

  • Income proof can be the last 6 months' bank statement, ITR receipts, and salary slips for the last 2 months

The Awas Yojana documents such as the sale agreement and deed, Certificate to Property Registration, Builder Payment Receipt, etc. may also be needed. 

What are the documents required for PMAY for a self-employed person?

The following documents are needed in the case of a self-employed person are:

  • ID Proof can be an Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, DL or driving licence, etc

  • Address proof can be an Aadhaar card, voter card, bank statements having your address, voter card, LIC or Life Insurance Policy, or passport

  • Income Proof can be Firm or factory establishment certificate, trade licence, SEBI certificate, SSI registration, PAN card, VAT registration, sales tax and deed receipt, factory registration certificate, ROC-issued registration number, partnership deed, etc.

Do I need to submit property documents when applying for the PMAY scheme?

Yes. Both salaried and self-employed applicants need to submit property-related documents when applying for the PMAY scheme. The list of documents include copies of the allotment letter, complete chain of property, payment receipt, and sale agreement.

Till when can I apply for the PMAY Urban scheme?

The deadline for the PMAY-U scheme has been extended until 31st December 2024.
