The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act was issued across India back in 2016 to manage the real estate sector of the country and further improve it. According to the Act, all states and union territories are required to set up an authoritative body whose sole purpose would be to look after the real estate affairs of the region. This governing body was termed the Real Estate Regulatory Authority.
Once the act came into force, all states and union territories started working as per it. Chandigarh is no different, however, the progress and impact of RERA have been low here in comparison to some other states.
As per RERA act, the real estate developers need to register their ongoing and upcoming projects to RERA Chandigarh. It comprises all the details and corresponding documents, including project plans, development plans, contact information, financial papers, a title deed, land encumbrance details, et cetera. Moreover, the developers need to update the details of the projects from time to time.
RERA Chandigarh also requires real estate agents to register at the respective state RERA, their contact details, enterprise details, income tax returns, and other documents as specified in the rules.
RERA Chandigarh was set up to fulfil certain responsibilities and look after the welfare of the real estate sector in the region. The following are the sanctions of the RERA Chandigarh
Registration of Real Estate Developers and Real Estate Agents
Tracking and ensuring regular updates on the number of ongoing and upcoming projects in the state
Making sure that all grievances are addressed timely and efficiently
To ensure transparency, accountability and fair play in the real estate sector

The RERA Chandigarh acts like a trusting body for the homebuyers in Chandigarh. They can confidently go about purchasing property in Chandigarh without fearing uncertainties, fraud, and delays. They can even lodge their complaints with RERA in case of any discrepancy. RERA will hear the case and pass their judgement. However, if any of the parties is dissatisfied, they can plea with the Appellate Tribunal for a hearing on the verdicts of the RERA.
