Education is one of the most critical aspects of the development of an individual. Subjects like languages, arts, and communication reveal much about the world and its order and the various social factors around it. Promoting them will open up new doors to more research in the Indian context as well, which in turn will facilitate future research as well.

Marks continue to play a crucial role in deciding what the child will pursue in the future. Such  pressure every year could lead the student to underperform and could lower down their morale. 

 

One way around it is that instead of focusing on a term-end evaluation, a thorough evaluation could be done on factors such as extracurricular activities, leadership, communication, and projects — skills that actually add up to the development of an individual.

3. Crafting the right skills

Digital technology is shaping up the way the world is working. According to a Mint report, India is home to over 4 million app developers. Such a sector had no place three decades ago. Big companies are a result of technological progress, and in the process, they would be eliminating several jobs in the low-and medium-skill sectors and have them replaced with automation. Such a change will help these emerging markets to innovate and increase productivity.

 

It is crucial that India gets in line with such change and produces a syllabus which keeps the students updated with such technologies and study materials right from their college years so that they can better compete in the changing market.

4. Promote creativity and aesthetics

Students must understand — learn to see — the beauty in things so that when they grow up as individuals, they do not merely look at things as structures and people as bodies. 

 

Nurturing creativity and aesthetics opens up new doors to the all-round development of an individual and helps to draw a relationship between the past and the present and see where the change occurred.

5. More local context

Many examples that are cited in subjects like social sciences come from models from the west — situations that do not truly work in the Indian context. There is a need to have more research locally so that more data can be generated, which in turn can be used in textbooks. With a more local approach, students will learn problem-solving at home, rather than having to rely on the western models to understand social and psychological situations.

 

With such a looming competition where at least ten million are expected to join the workforce every year, India is catering to a market that already has enough competition. It is also essential to come up with a training model for such an emerging workforce, to have them ready to compete at a global level right from their college years.

 

It is also important to orient parents on the pressure they put on students, asking them to excel in academics and become the engineers and doctors of the future. This kills the child’s creativity and kills their creative, artistic dream, obscuring their thinking power and limiting them to figure-calculating individuals that they are not
