Himachal Pradesh has digitised its Public Distribution System to a transparency portal - ePDS Himachal Pradesh. Through this portal, the cardholders can now print their ration card copy themselves. Read ahead to know more about the HP ration card and its details.

Here are the types of ration cards in Himachal Pradesh:

• Below Poverty Line (BPL) Ration Card: Designed for families classified as living below the poverty threshold, offering access to essential food items at subsidised prices.

• Above Poverty Line (APL) Ration Card: Issued to families with incomes above the poverty line, enabling them to purchase food at standard rates, though not as heavily subsidised as BPL.

To apply for a new Himachal ration card, you should fulfil the following criteria-

1. Citizenship Requirement: The applicant must be an Indian citizen

2. Age Requirement: The head of the household applying must be at least 18 years old.

3. Identity Verification: Mandatory linking of Aadhaar numbers for all household members.

4. Family Member Citizenship: The applicant’s family members who are going to be on the ration card should also be Indian citizens

5. Exclusivity Condition: At the time of applying for a new card, the applicant should not have any ration card in that person’s name

6. Address Change Exemption: The applicant can apply for a new card if they have changed their residential address

7. Temporary Card Expiration: The applicant can apply for a new card if they have a temporary ration card that has a validity of 3 months

8. Card Replacement Exemption: The applicant can apply for a new card if they have lost, defaced or mutilated the old ration card, which became illegible now

9. Socioeconomic Categorisation: Classification into AAY or PHH categories depends on household data from the Socio Economic and Caste Census (SECC) and state welfare criteria.

To apply for a ration card in Himachal Pradesh, you have to submit the additional documents listed below along with the application form.

For New Ration Card

• Proof of Identity & Address: Copy of Aadhaar, Voter ID (Election Commission of India), or Permanent Account Number (PAN) card.

• Residence Proof: Electricity bill, water bill, or land/house ownership document.

• Deletion / Surrender Certificate: Proof showing that the applicant’s name has been removed from a previous ration card (if migrating from another area/state).

• Passport-sized Photographs: Of the head of the family.

For Modifying Existing Ration Card

• Existing Ration Card Copy

• For Adding a Spouse: Marriage Certificate and Deletion Certificate from the spouse's previous card.

• For Adding a Child: Birth Certificate of the child and Aadhaar details.

You can apply for a ration card online. Apply for an HP ration card through the below mentioned steps.

• Step 1: Visit the official website of Himachal Pradesh’s Development of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs - food.hp.nic.in

• Step 2: Go to the ‘Getting/Renewal of Ration Cards’ section on the left side of the home page

• Step 3: From the page that appears, choose Form II for applying for the ration card

• Step 4: There is an option to download application forms in both English and Hindi

• Step 5: Download the application form of your choice and fill in the required fields carefully

• Step 6: Submit the filled application form

In the case of rural areas, submit it to the Panchayat Secretary or Sahayak.

In the case of urban areas, submit it to the Food and Supplies Officer or Inspector.

• Step 7: The application form should be attested by the concerned authorities of the state government

• Step 8: Once the application form is submitted, the applicant will receive a receipt in which the date of collecting the ration card will be mentioned

• Step 9: Everything mentioned in the application form including the new address, other information regarding members, etc will be verified

• Step 10: A new ration card will be issued if all the details are found satisfactory

• Step 11: The applicant must produce the receipt to collect the ration card

• Step 12: To add a newborn child’s name, in addition to the original ration card, the birth certificate of the child must be submitted to the concerned office

• Step 4: Enter ‘Application Status’ and click on ‘Search’

Adding a Member:

1. Visit the eDistrict Himachal Pradesh portal or submit Form II to your local FSO/Panchayat office.
2. Attach the Birth Certificate (for newborns) or Marriage Certificate along with a Deletion Certificate (for newly added spouses).
3. Provide the member's Aadhaar card details.
4. Upon verification by authorities, the name will be updated in the ePDS database.

Deleting a Member:

1. Submit an application form for deletion at the concerned department office or portal.
2. Attach supporting documents such as a Death Certificate (in case of deceased members) or marriage registration/address change proof.
3. The official will process the deletion and issue a Deletion Certificate if needed for transfer.
