Vehicle Registration at Punjab RTO
All vehicles should be registered at Punjab RTO to drive them on the roads of Punjab. You can register a vehicle temporarily (issued by the vehicle dealer and valid for one month) or permanently (issued by RTO and valid for 15 years from the date of registration). Locate the RTO responsible for your area.
Visit the concerned RTO with the relevant documents.
Pay the applicable taxes and fees.
Submit the forms and documents at the RTO office.
After verifying the submitted documents, the RTO will register your vehicle and provide you with the registration number of the vehicle.
The forms and documents required are;
Form 20 or application form for new registrations
Form 21
Form 22A or roadworthiness certificate of the vehicle from the manufacturer
Form 28 or No Objection Certificate from the financer if the vehicle is bought on loan
Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate
Address proof
Invoice of the purchase, if life-tax is applicable
Custom Bill, in case of an imported vehicle

Functions of Punjab RTO
Punjab RTO ensures that all the rules and regulations under the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 are followed. Some of the PB RTO functions are;
1. Issuance of License
Issuance of driving license, learner’s driving license (in case the applicant is still learning to drive) and renewal of the licenses.
2. Collection Of Road Tax
Collection of application fees and taxes, including road taxes.
3. Vehicle Registration
Temporary and permanent registration of the vehicle and renewal of the registration certificate.
4. Permit Issuance and Others
Issuing No-Objection certificate, vehicle fitness certificate as well as the issuance and renewal of various vehicle permits, including permits for commercial use.
