Traffic violations are a common occurrence on the roads, necessitating strict enforcement by police and traffic management authorities to ensure road safety and an efficient traffic system. The advent of online e-challan through platforms like Parivahan has revolutionised this process. This is a digital system for issuing traffic violation fines.
Through cameras installed at various points, such as junctions and signals, traffic violations are regularly monitored, and offenders' vehicle numbers are captured. Subsequently, e-challans are digitally sent to the owners' mobile numbers, allowing for convenient tracking of fines online via websites or apps.
If you've received an e-challan for a traffic violation, it indicates that either a traffic camera or a police officer has recorded the violation. However, if you believe the fine was issued unfairly, you have the option to file a traffic challan complaint.
To contest a wrong e-challan, the vehicle owner can raise a complaint and present evidence of their innocence. This enables them to approach the traffic police and file a complaint through the grievance system. Moreover, if you notice any technical issues with an e-Challan, you can bring them to the attention of the authorities as a vehicle owner. This can be done through the following:
Email Address: helpdesk-echallan@gov.in
Helpline Number: 0120-2459171 (between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.)
It may take up to 15 days for them to consider your grievance and report back to you.
Follow these simple steps to raise a wrong challan complaint:
Visit the official website of e-challan - Digital Traffic/Transport Enforcement Solution at: echallan.parivahan.gov.in
Click on ‘Complaint’ and look for the Grievance System page
Log into your account and enter information like your name, contact number, and challan number
Upload the proof of the e-challan complaint
Click on ‘Submit’ once the uploading process is complete
After submitting the e-challan complaint, the traffic police department will review it through the grievance system and provide a prompt update on its status.
The e-challan portal functions consistently across all states in India, enabling both traffic police and vehicle owners to track their challans nationwide. To check the status of your ticket, follow these steps:
Navigate to https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in/gsticket/ in your browser
Locate the tab labelled ‘Ticket Status’ and click on it
Enter your e-ticket or e-challan complaint number along with the Captcha code
Click on ‘Check the Status’ to retrieve the latest update on your grievance
At times, errors occur when traffic cameras misinterpret vehicle numbers, leading to wrongful challans issued to unrelated vehicles. In such cases, filing an e-challan complaint becomes crucial. Just as obtaining a motor insurance plan is crucial, reporting a mistaken e-challan ensures fair enforcement of traffic regulations.
You can register a complaint for receiving the wrong e-challan. Open the official website of e-challan, fill in the necessary details, and submit the complaint.
To file a complaint, you must enter the details such as your name, your contact number, your challan number, etc. You would have received these on your registered mobile number.
Along with the necessary personal and vehicle details, you also need to submit the proof of your innocence along with the complaint.
In case of a wrong e-challan ticket, you can visit the official grievances portal at https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in/gsticket/ and initiate the tracking process there.
