The government has introduced a new income tax filing portal, www.incometax.gov.in, with the goal of improving taxpayer accessibility and developing the process of submitting an ITR in a more frictionless way by giving individuals with existing data. It was also to make it easier to process tax returns swiftly and offer refunds.
The new website was developed with the goal of offering a user-friendly environment on the website for its users and taxpayers, as well as making the e-filing experience simpler and wiser.
‘The goal of this portal is to provide a single-window to income tax related services for taxpayers and other stakeholders,' according to the Finance Minister. However, after a few hours of its opening, the site began to exhibit major flaws, which included taxpayers unable to access the website, various types of errors appearing and numerous other technical glitches.

The Central told the Lok Sabha that glitches with the new income tax e-filing platform are being worked on by Infosys. In response to a question about the new income tax portal's difficulties since its debut on June 7, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary stated that the Income Tax Department is in constant contact with Infosys to resolve any remaining problems.
Infosys has reassured the ministry that their team has been working on the outstanding technicalities and has provided projected deadlines for resolution. Technological and efficiency concerns, database errors, and non-working components such as prolonged logging in times, failure to create OTP for Aadhaar verification, and non-availability of ITRs for previous years have all been fixed.
ITR filing has begun on the New IT Portal. Both the offline and online versions of Form ITR 1 and ITR 4 are available. A few taxpayers may still see errors in some selections, but it is largely being filed now.
According to the most recent version on the Income Tax Portal, the Common Offline Utility was issued on 02/08/2021 for ITR 1 to ITR 4, but not for ITR 5 to ITR 7.
Initially, the option to download ITR-V and ITR Form was not working; however, if you are still having problems, try using a high-speed Internet connection or downloading early in the morning (i.e. before 9 AM)
To select for the New Tax Slab regime, you must e-file Form 10 IE if you are submitting ITR 3 or ITR 4. The same will be auto-populated in the ITR Form after filing Form 10IE. The option to choose a new regime is included in ITR 1 and ITR 2.
On the New Portal, the concept of creating a signature file for registering a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) has been dropped. You may now register DSC directly from the IT Portal by installing the new DSC Management Utility, emBridge.
DSC must be registered in each partner's or director's individual profile with their own personal credentials. DSC will automatically work in Firm/login Company's if they are an authorised signatory in Firm/IT Company's Profile.
If you were previously registered on the old e-filing portal, you do not need to re-register because existing assessees were immediately moved to the new portal with the same credentials. However, the ability to register for the first time on the Tax Portal has been activated on the New Portal and is currently operational.
Despite the fact that the due date had been extended, the New Portal was initially computing late fees on 01/08/2021 for filing ITR after the 31st of July. However, the problem has already been rectified.
Follow these quick steps to file your tax returns on the new portal.
Step 1: Click on ‘Login’ on the e-filing portal's home page
Step 2: Click on ‘Continue’ after entering your PAN in the ‘Enter your User ID’ textbox
Step 3: Confirm the Secure Access Message you received. Click on ‘Continue’ after entering your Password
Issues with the new income tax portal will be fixed soon as per concerned authorities.
After successfully logging into the ITD Portal, go to the 'Compliance' menu and select "View and Submit Compliance." Now you can see all of the IT Notices, Outstanding Demand Notices, and other compliance obligations that are specific to your profile.
