Here’s what you need to know about road tax in Assam!

The Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) are responsible for the collection of road taxes in the state of Assam. It is a one-time payment levied at the time of purchasing the vehicle – be it a two-wheeler or a four-wheeler.
The Indian government levies road taxes to fund the upkeep of the country's state and national highways. The funding raised will be utilised to repair road infrastructure and assist commute₹Furthermore, road taxes ensure that road safety and security are maintained.
In Assam, there are two modes for paying road tax: offline and online.

In Assam, the most popular form of paying road tax is offline. To use the offline approach, go to the District Transportation Office. They will be required to complete specific papers, including supplying vehicle information, after which they will be able to pay the appropriate tax at the office's cash counter. They will be given a challan upon payment, which must be preserved as proof of payment.

Road taxes are also levied on passenger vehicles that are utilised for business purposes. These are not, however, one-time fees. Instead, owners can pay their taxes in quarterly or annual instalments.
Road tax in Assam may be submitted in one lump sum by 15th April of every year. The inability to submit taxation charges will result in significant fines, which can be as high as 50 per cent of the unpaid tax amount.
