As a result of the rising population, the number of vehicles on the road has also risen. This also means that there is an increased incidence of road accidents. To curb these, state governments have imposed stricter traffic rules and implemented e-Challan, Gujarat included. 

The main aim of this system is to promote effective traffic control. e-Challan by Gujarat and other states has been put in place to lessen instances of rule violations and to simplify the work of traffic authorities.

In 2019, the penalties for traffic violations in Gujarat were substantially reduced. Previously, depending on the violation, the penalties could go up to ₹10,000. Now, the fine for breaking traffic rules has gone down to as much as ₹500. 

According to the CM of the state, the fines were reduced on compassionate and humanitarian grounds.  Although some of the fines have been reduced up to 90%, there are some penalties that have stayed the same. Here a look at the latest penalties for traffic violation in Gujarat.

Steps to Pay e-Challan by Gujarat Traffic Police Through Parivahan

• Step 1: Go to the following website: https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in/index/accused-challan

• Step 2: Enter the E- Challan Number, DL or Vehicle Number

• Step 3: Now enter the Captcha code and click on ‘Get Details’

• Step 4: Now, check the details of the offence and the e-Challan status, and then proceed with the Gujarat traffic fine online payment through e-Challan Gujarat.

Steps to Pay e-Challan by Gujarat Traffic Police Through the State Government Website

• Step 1: Go to the following website to pay an e-Challan from Gujarat authorities: https://echallanpayment.gujarat.gov.in/sasguj/AccusedChallan/NewAccusedChallan

• Step 2: Enter the vehicle number, captcha code and click on ‘Submit’.

• Step 3: Check the status of e-Challan by Gujarat traffic police

• Step 4: Pay the e-Challan through your preferred method.

1. Through the Parivahan website

• Step 1: Visit the Parivahan website and enter challan number

• Step 2: Check the details of the e-Challan by Gujarat traffic police

In case there is no e-Challan issued by Gujarat traffic police, the screen will display ‘Challan not found’.

2. Through the Gujarat e-Challan App

• Step 1: Download the app from play store

• Step 2: Enter the required information

• Step 3: Click on ‘Get details’

• Step 4: Check your paid and unpaid e-Challan by Gujarat traffic police

Although it’s easier to pay off the e-challan via the online process, if one requires to pay via an offline process, here are the steps they must follow:

• Offline means that you must visit the official website of the transportation of Gujarat to receive the e-challan copy.

• You may require to obtain the amount details, e-challan information, vehicle registration information, and more.

• Download and print the receipt of your e-challan in order to prepare a demand draft, cheque, or pay order in the favour of the Traffic/DCP (HQs).

• Courier or post the demand draft, pay order, or cheque, and get a printout of the e-challan to the Traffic/DCP (HQs) office.

• You will then receive a confirmation message from the Traffic Police of Gujarat to ensure the success of the payment transaction. 

After the completion of the payment, your e-challan will then be cleared from the records of the policy successfully. You will then not be held responsible for any kind of outstanding cost against the e-challan that had been issued by the Gujarat Police to you. 

The validity of your e-challan must be considered when it comes to the payment of the traffic-related fines in Gujarat online. If you get an e-challan because of a violation of the traffic laws, you must pay the fine within the first 60 days of its issuance. If you fail to do so, you will have to pay additional penalty or other late charges.

Hence, it is imperative that you act instantly after having received the e-challan in order to avoid the unwanted consequences.
