About Multi-Commodity Exchange of India (MCX)

The Multi Commodity Exchange of India, often abbreviated as the MCX, is a commodity exchange based in India and operated by the Government of India. It commenced its operations in November 2003 and is currently based out of Mumbai. MCX operates similarly to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), offering commodity derivative contracts across categories such as agriculture commodities, metals, energy, etc.

MCX is an advanced platform where commodities are traded between various buyers and sellers on a regular basis. Both hard and soft commodities form a part of the collection reflecting delivery standards in tune with international standards.

Regulated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), MCX is India’s largest commodity derivatives exchange. The exchange regulates commodity derivative contract trading across a variety of industries.

Products of MCX

There are many types of data products distributed by MCX. There are mainly four types - bullion, base metals, energy, and agricultural commodities. Bullion consists of various metals such as gold, gold mini, gold petal, gold global, silver, silver mini, silver micro, and more.

Base metals include Aluminium, Copper, Lead, Nickel, Zinc, etc.

MCX’s energy part includes natural gas, unrefined oil, and crude oil mini whereas the agricultural commodities incorporate cardamom, cotton, crude palm oil, kapas, mentha oil, castor seed, and black pepper.

What are the MCX Trading Hours

The Multi-Commodity Exchange operates five days a week from Monday to Friday and is closed on Saturdays like the BSE and NSE. In terms of timings, the morning sessions usually run between 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, and the evening session usually commences at 5:00 pm and goes on till 11:55 pm.

Non-agricultural commodities can be traded between 10:00 am and 11:30 pm during summer and 11:55 pm during winter.
