Coronavirus & Its Vaccines in India

The COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020 in India. It's been two years and the nation is still fighting this deadly virus. Millions of people lost their lives because of this virus. The pandemic has affected our lives in multiple ways. Avoiding public gatherings, wearing masks, using hand sanitizer, avoiding physical contact, working from home, buying groceries and other things online, among other practices have become part of our lives.

In addition to this, people are getting vaccinated against COVID-19 and acquiring good health insurance to protect themselves and their families. On January 16, 2021, India began providing COVID-19 vaccinations. Covaxin and Covishield are the two COVID-19 vaccinations that are most widely used in India. However, the COVID vaccination, according to physicians, may not completely prevent an infection, but it can undoubtedly lessen the severity of the ailment.

Both vaccines are useful in fighting against COVID-19. However, many people have a confusion thinking about what is difference between Covaxin and Covishield. Therefore, to help you out, we will discuss these differences in this article so that you can clear your doubts. Let’s begin!

Covaxin

Covaxin was developed in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV) by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech International Ltd. It is the first Indian vaccine against the COVID-19 pandemic. It's manufactured from an immobilised virus that was destroyed before being incorporated into the vaccine. The technique used to make this vaccine is one of the oldest methods of human vaccination. When an inactivated virus is put into a healthy human body, the immune system responds by producing antibodies to combat it. When a person is exposed to live coronavirus, these antibodies help to avoid a severe case of COVID-19. The vaccine is preserved between 2 to 8 degrees celsius and is administered in two doses, with a four to six week interval between doses. Fever, nausea, headaches, soreness,  muscular aches, and swelling are a few side effects of Covaxin.

Covishield

Covishield was developed by Oxford-AstraZeneca and Serum Institute of India (SII) , which is in Pune, manufactures its Indian variant. Covishield is produced from a viral retrovirus derived from another virus (also known as adenovirus) discovered in Chimpanzees. Covishield can be kept at temperatures ranging from 2 to 8 degrees celsius for up to six months. This vaccine is said to produce more antibodies in the human body, necessitating a longer time interval between the two doses. Thus, this is given in two doses, separated by 12 to 16 weeks.

Body pain, fever, weakness, and nausea are some of the side-effects of this vaccine.
