Under Section 142 of the Social Security Code 2020, the Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) makes it mandatory that employees link UAN with Aadhaar card. The EPF account is depicted via a UAN (Universal Account Number), and it has to be seeded with an Aadhaar card to link the Provident Fund (PF) to it. There are several advantages of linking your 12-digit Aadhaar number to your Employee Provident Fund (EPF). As an employee, you can do UAN-Aadhaar linking in any of the following three ways:
Using the EPFO website
Visiting the local EPFO office
Downloading the UMANG app
Steps to link Aadhaar to EPF account online are:
Step 1: Visit the EPFO website.
Step 2: Use your UAN & password to Login into your account.
Step 3: Go to "Manage" & click on the option-KYC.
Step 4: Select "Aadhaar" to link with your EPF account.
Step 5: Click on "Aadhaar" and enter your Aadhaar number, name and click on the save option.
Step 6: Now, your Aadhaar will be verified from UIDAI's data.
Step 7: Once your KYC document has been approved, you can link Aadhaar with EPF account online.
Step 8: Finally, after the successful link, it will show "Verified" against your Aadhaar details.
Employees who are not comfortable with online mode can link their Aadhaar card to their EPF account by visiting the nearest EPFO office. They can submit their application in person.
Steps to link Aadhaar to EPF account offline are:
Step 1: Fill in the application form for “Aadhaar Seeding”.
Step 2: Enter UAN & Aadhaar and all other details.
Step 3: Self-attested copies of your- UAN, PAN and Aadhaar have to be attached along with the form.
Step 4: Submit the form at any EPFO office/ Common Service Centers -CSC outlets.
Step 5: Once verification is over, your EPF-Aadhaar link will be confirmed.
Step 6: Finally, a message of the successful linking will be sent on your registered mobile number.
UMANG -Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance is a Government of India Initiative.
Steps to be followed here are:
Step 1: First, download the UMANG App (from Google Play Store/ Apple Store).
Step 2: Enter the registered mobile number (if you have already registered).
Step 3: Login either with "MPIN" / or "Enter OTP" and click "Continue."
Step 4: Enter OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
Step 5: After setting an MPIN, you will be logged in to UMANG APP.
Step 6: Go to "All Services Tab" and select "EPFO."
Step 7: Under the EPFO section, click on "e-KYC services."
Step 8: Select the Aadhaar Seeding option under the "e-KYC services."
Step 9: Now enter your UAN and click on "Get OTP."
Step 10: You will now get an OTP on the registered mobile number with EPF Account
Step 11: Enter Aadhaar details & receive an OTP on your registered mobile number and email address
Step 12: Upon OTP verification, your UAN-Aadhaar link will be finally established.

Reduces errors: When your Aadhaar is linked with EPF and UAN, chances of mistakes and discrepancies in the data are significantly less, as your information is consistent with your Aadhaar card details.
Reduces risk of Duplicate account: When the EPF-Aadhaar link is established, it reduces the chances of having a duplicate account.
Easy PF withdrawal: You can easily withdraw your PF online. This process is hassle-free and can be completed online.

Your registered mobile number is mandatory for the OTP authentication as without it seeding Aadhaar with EPF A/c is impossible.
In case you forget your UAN password, regenerate the password by following these steps:
Click on the 'Forgot Password' option.
Provide your UAN with CAPTCHA.
OTP will be sent on your mobile- which is seeded with UAN.
Enter OTP & reset – password.
For filing an online claim of your EPF, seeding your UAN with Aadhaar is mandatory.
