Udyog Aadhaar

The Udyog Aadhaar is a 12-digit number that is used to register and identify Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India. This Unique Identification Number (UIN) is provided by the Ministry of MSMEs. This is particularly useful for sole proprietors who do not have any official identification tool. The Udyog Aadhaar can help owners of these small and micro businesses get the official recognition they need to cement and grow their trade.

The Udyog Aadhaar scheme was launched in India in September 2015. As of October 2021, there are over 55 lakh Udyog Aadhaar registrations in India.[1] This number only continues to grow as an increasing number of entrepreneurs register on the portal.

Not all businesses are eligible for Udyog Aadhar. This scheme is specifically for businesses that are categorized as Micro, Small or Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). A business can be classified as a micro, small or medium enterprise based on its investment and turnover, as follows.

Registering for the Udyog Aadhar card can be done free of charge. If you wish to register for the Udyog Aadhaar scheme, you can do it in any of the following ways.

• Online registration using your Aadhaar number

• Offline registration without using your Aadhaar number

If you do not have an Aadhaar number, you can still go ahead with your Aadhar Udyog registration in the following manner.

• Step 1: Apply for an Aadhaar card if you are eligible for the same as per section 3 of the Aadhaar Act.
• Step 2: Till you receive the Aadhaar card, your application for Udyog Aadhaar will be made by the District Industry Center (DIC) or MSME-DI. So, you need to submit the relevant documents to the DIC or MSME-DI applicable to you.

1. Aadhaar enrollment ID slip or a copy of the request you made for the Aadhaar enrollment

2. Any valid address proof like voter ID card, driving license, passport, or bank passbook with photograph

• Step 3: Fill out the Udyog Aadhar Mandate (UAM), which is a physical registration form. Once this is done, submit it to the concerned DIC or MSME-DI.

• Your Aadhaar card or your Aadhaar enrollment slip

• Your bank passbook with your photograph

• Passport

• Voter ID

• PAN card

• Driving license

• Caste certificate in case of applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC category

In case you need to update or edit your Udyog Aadhaar, the process involved is fairly straightforward. Here is what you need to do.

• Step 1: Visit udyogaadhaar.gov.in and head to the Udyami login section.
• Step 2: Enter your 12-digit UAM number, the captcha and the OTP that you will receive on your registered mobile number or email ID.
• Step 3: You can then log in and update the details or make any changes to your Udyog Aadhaar as needed.
