For many of us, getting a new credit card means an increase in purchasing power. However, before you can start using a new one, you need to activate your credit card.
To activate a new credit card, there are some simple procedures that are to be followed. While different credit card companies may have different ways of credit card activation, there are a number of ways that you can use to complete the process conveniently and quickly.
It is important that you follow the steps that your credit card company has suggested. Read on to find the different ways to activate a new credit card and choose the one that suits you the most.
When you want to get your credit card active, you first need to know the Personal Identification Number (PIN). Your credit card company would communicate this secret number to you safely and discreetly. This number is mostly sent in separate mail than the credit card. There is also the option to generate the PIN online.
Activate Credit Card via Customer Care Service
There are still many customers who prefer taking help from a person rather than a machine. Thankfully, one of the simplest ways to activate your credit card offline is to do so via the company customer care.
You can get in touch with a customer care executive by calling on the company helpline. The credit card customer care number can be taken from the company website/ credit card documents. The executive will help you through the process and activate the new card.
When you are going to activate a credit card online, you would require the PIN. In case you do not have it or want to generate it online, you would have to log into your account. Let’s take a look at the steps:
Visit the company website and log in to your account by entering your customer ID and password
Go to “Card Activation”
Select the new card and generate the PIN
The 4-digit PIN would then be sent to your preferred source, which could be your registered mobile number or email ID or both
Some banks and credit card companies give the option to activate a new credit card by sending the PIN on your registered mobile number. You will be asked to send a specific message to a specific number within a specified time period. Make sure you follow all instructions carefully and correctly.
One of the most common methods used these days to activate a new credit card is via the company app. You need to follow these steps:
Download the app on your smartphone and log in
You may be prompted to generate a password for the app
Once you enter your account, go to ‘Credit Card’ and enter the required details
Select ‘Generate PIN’
The PIN will soon be generated and sent to your preferred source- registered mobile number or email ID or both
You can visit an ATM that belongs to the bank or credit card company. Once you enter the credit card in the slot, you would have to enter the PIN that you received on your registered mobile number or email address or through the post. You will be able to then set a new 4-digit pin for your credit card.

1. SBI credit card activation
Activate SBI credit cards for online transactions and other uses. To activate your card you can follow the steps given below:
Call the SBI Credit Card Customer Care numbers 1860 180 1290 or 39 02 02 02 with the local STD code as the prefix
Select option 6 to be able to generate the PIN
You will be asked to enter the 16-digit credit card number and the date of expiry in this format - MM (month) YY (year)
You would then have to enter your date of birth in this format - DD (date) MM (month) YYYY (year)
Then you will receive an OTP on the registered mobile number which you would have to enter
You would then be prompted to enter a 4-digit code of your choice. You would be asked to re-enter this code to confirm
Soon you will receive a confirmation message that your credit card is active
2. Axis bank credit card activation
Activate Axis Bank credit cards online as well as offline. To activate the card via customer care/ IVR you can try these steps:
Call the IVR (Interactive Voice Response) or the Axis Bank credit card customer care on 1860 419 5555 / 1860 500 5555
Select option 2 to go to ‘PIN relation services’. Then go to ‘Generate Debit Card/ Credit Card PIN’ and then choose ‘Generate PIN’
Now enter the card number, date of expiry in this format - MM (month) YY (year) and the registered mobile number in the required format
You will be prompted to enter your date of birth in this format DD (date) MM (month) YYYY (year)
Post the verification, you would receive a passcode on the registered mobile number. This is NOT the credit card PIN, rather the code to activate the credit card
Once you enter this code, you will be asked to enter a 4-digit code of your choice, this will be your credit card PIN.
Once this step is successful, you will receive a confirmation message about the activation of your card
