The government has introduced a new income tax filing portal, www.incometax.gov.in, with the goal of improving taxpayer ease and developing the process of submitting an ITR in a more frictionless manner by giving individuals the existing data. It was also to make it easier to process tax returns swiftly and offer refunds.
Step 1: Log in to the “www.incometax.gov.in (http://www.incometax.gov.in)” e-filing portal.
Step 2: Select ‘My Profile' from the dropdown menu by clicking on your profile image in the top right corner. You can also click the ‘Update Profile Name' button
Step 3: In the ‘Profile' area, click the ‘Edit name’ button.
Step 4: Your name, date of birth, gender, PAN, and PAN status will be displayed in the ‘Profile' area. You can also change your citizenship, residency status, and passport information. If your Aadhaar number is linked, the status will show as ‘Linked' next to the Aadhaar number.
Once you've finished editing the details, click the 'Save' button.
Step 5: On the personal details page, under the ‘Contact' section, click the ‘Edit’ button
Step 6: Type in your primary cellphone number (select the country code from the dropdown)
Step 7: Choose the status with the individual to whom the primary number belongs from the selection. It's crucial to keep your primary contact information up to date.
You can click on ‘Change as per Aadhaar' and confirm it in the new pop-up window to update your contact information according to Aadhaar. You will receive an OTP on your UIDAI-registered cellphone number and will be directed to enter it.
Step 8: Enter your backup mobile phone number in the same way (choose the country code from the selection). Choose the relationship with the person to whom the primary number belongs from the dropdown menu. Entering supplementary contact information is optional.
Step 9: You can also provide your home/office phone number and landline information.
Step 10: Fill in the primary email address and the relationship you have with the person who owns the email account. By selecting ‘Update as per Aadhaar,' you can also get such primary contact information from the UIDAI database.
Step 11: Go to the bottom of the page and type in your address. Now, enter details such as nation, flat/door/building, and pin code. Select the appropriate post office, area/locality, district/city, state, and mode of communication.
To continue, click ‘Save' after filling in all of the necessary information. Your profile information has been successfully updated.
