Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana

The Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana (NSMNY) is a welfare initiative launched by the Maharashtra government to increase the income of cultivable landholding farmer families. This scheme provides direct financial assistance to eligible farmers who already benefit from the central government’s PM KISAN Scheme. 

Under this scheme, farmers receive an additional ₹6,000 annually, paid in three equal instalments. The scheme aims to support farmers by supplementing their income, thereby improving their financial stability and encouraging sustainable farming practices. It reflects the state’s commitment to recognising and honouring the contribution of farmers to the economy.

To benefit from the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana, farmers must meet the following conditions: 

• Resident of Maharashtra

The applicant must be a resident of Maharashtra. This scheme is exclusively for farmers within the state.

• PM KISAN Enrolment 

Applicants must be eligible for and receiving benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM KISAN) Yojana of the central government. 

• Small or Marginal Landholding 

The farmer must own cultivable land as per the land records of the state. Land ownership records must be up to date and verifiable. 

• Valid Aadhaar and Bank Details

The farmer's Aadhaar number must be linked to their bank account for the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) process.

The Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana excludes certain individuals and families with higher income or professional status. Here are the key categories not eligible for benefits:

• Institutional Landholders

Any land owned by institutions, instead of individual farmers, is not eligible under this scheme. 

• Holders of Constitutional Posts

Farmers whose family members currently hold or have held constitutional positions are excluded. 

• Politicians and Elected Representatives

This includes current or former Members of Parliament (Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha), State Legislative Assemblies or Councils, Ministers, Mayors, or District Panchayat Chairpersons. 

• Government Employees and Officers

Serving or retired employees of Central or State Government departments, public sector undertakings, or autonomous bodies are excluded—except for Group D/Class IV or multitasking staff. 

• Pensioners with High Pension

Those drawing a pension of ₹10,000 or more per month are not eligible. However, this does not apply to Group D/Class IV/multitasking pensioners.

• Income Taxpayers

Individuals who paid income tax in the last assessment year are excluded, regardless of their profession.

• Professionals in Practice

Practicing doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, and architects registered with their respective professional bodies are not eligible.

• Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)

NRIs are not entitled to claim benefits under this state-specific scheme for resident farmers.

 

These exclusions prevent misuse and ensure that the scheme benefits only genuine small and marginal farmers who need financial assistance.

Applicants must have the following documents ready to verify their eligibility and complete the process:

• Aadhaar Card: Used for identity verification and linking bank accounts for direct payments

• 7/12 Extract: Land ownership document confirming cultivable landholding

• 8A Extract: Additional land record supporting ownership details

• Ferfar: Document showing ownership and land details

• Ration Card: Used to verify family details and residency

The application process for the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana is straightforward and integrated with the PM KISAN Scheme. Follow these steps:

• Step 1: Register on PM KISAN Portal

Farmers must first register themselves on the PM KISAN portal if not already registered.

• Step 2: Verify Eligibility

The system verifies eligibility based on land records and other criteria.

• Step 3: Get Taluka Level Approval

The Taluka Nodal Officer reviews and approves the application.

• Step 4: Obtain District Level Approval

The District Nodal Officer further verifies and approves the application.

• Step 5: Await Final Approval at State Level

The State Nodal Officer gives the final sanction for the benefit.

• Step 6: Receive Instalments via DBT

Once approved, the annual amount of ₹6,000 is credited in three instalments directly to the Aadhaar-linked bank account.

 

Note that since NSMNY is linked with PM KISAN, eligible farmers automatically benefit without additional registration.
