Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana (AB-SSBY)

The Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana was launched on August 20, 2019, by the Punjab state government to enhance hospital services for people who come under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of the state. The main goal of the scheme's implementation is to offer cashless treatment of up to ₹5 Lakhs to the EWS residents at government and private hospitals so that they can receive medical treatments including surgeries without worrying about finances. AB-SSBY also provides beneficiaries with cashless family health insurance plans of ₹5 Lakhs annually. 

Here is a list of the accomplishments (as of 10th September 2022) this initiative has achieved so far.

• 46 Lakhs AB-SSBY  e-cards have been issued to Punjab residents.

• For this program, the Punjab government has spent ₹453 Crores.

• Over 6600 cardiac operations and 900 joint replacements have been performed.

• Over 9000 cancer patients have been treated, and 96000 dialysis treatments have been performed.

• The number of healthcare packages has grown from 1393 to 1579.

• Under the Sarbat Seva Bima Yojana, 3.80 lakh patients have been treated as of now.

Here are the features of Sehat Bima Yojana. 

1. Insurance Coverage

Each beneficiary’s family would receive a cashless health insurance policy worth ₹5 Lakhs each year.

2. Treatment Packages 

1579 secondary and tertiary medical care service packages at public and accredited private hospitals in Chandigarh and Punjab are provided to the beneficiaries under AB SSBY. 

3. Pre-Existing Disease Coverage

Pre-existing diseases are covered, and the treatment package covers three days of pre-hospitalisation and fifteen days of post-hospitalisation expenses.

4. Free COVID-19 Treatment

Beneficiaries of Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana will get free treatment for COVID-19.

1. Financial Support

You will get financial support of up to ₹5 Lakhs under this initiative. As a result, you can get yourself treated for any serious or minor disease without worrying about expenses. 

2.COVID-19 Insurance Coverage

During the COVID-19 crisis, the Punjab government announced that it would provide insurance to frontline employees. Safai karamcharis, sanitation employees, ward boys, physicians, ASHA workers, specialists, paramedics, nurses, and other healthcare personnel are all included. In the event of an accident, the recipient receives compensation of ₹50 Lakhs. However, this scheme went into force on April 30, 2020, and was only valid for 90 days.

3. Maximum Options

Beneficiaries of the Sehat Bima Yojana can get free treatment at 200 government hospitals and 767 private hospitals.

The coverage includes surgeries, expenses of three days of pre-hospitalisation and fifteen days of post-hospitalisation, newborn child treatment, and other hospitalisation charges.

The AB SSBY card would benefit all people who have a smart ration card, as well as labourers, farmers, journalists who possess a yellow card, excise and small traders who are registered with the tax department, among other groups. However, recipients must apply and obtain an AB SSBY card to receive the benefits associated with it. To receive cashless medical treatments under this scheme, beneficiaries are required to show their card at the network hospital. Under this yojana, 1,29,274 cards have been issued thus far (as of 10th September 2022).

• Next, choose the ‘Check for Eligibility in Scheme’ from the menu.

• A new page will appear.

• Enter the required details like ration number, registration ID, etc.

• Provide the captcha and click on ‘Search.’

• The result will be displayed.

• Tap the 'Citizen Corner' box on the homepage.

• Now, choose 'Check Active/Inactive Status of E-card.'

• You will be sent to a new page.

• Enter your health card number and captcha.

• To begin, go to the official web portal of the State Health Agency, Punjab.

• Navigate to the ‘Hospitals’ section and click on it.

• Next, select the option of ‘Empanelled Hospitals.’

• A new page will appear where you are required to provide details like the type of hospital, district name, and speciality.

• Following that, click on the ‘Search’ button.

• All details will be displayed on the screen.
