The Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana was launched on August 20, 2019, by the Punjab state government to enhance hospital services for people who come under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of the state. The main goal of the scheme's implementation is to offer cashless treatment of up to ₹5 Lakhs to the EWS residents at government and private hospitals so that they can receive medical treatments including surgeries without worrying about finances. AB-SSBY also provides beneficiaries with cashless family health insurance plans of ₹5 Lakhs annually. 

 

Here is a list of the accomplishments (as of 10th September 2022) this initiative has achieved so far.

  • 46 Lakhs AB-SSBY  e-cards have been issued to Punjab residents.

  • For this program, the Punjab government has spent ₹453 Crores.

  • Over 6600 cardiac operations and 900 joint replacements have been performed.

  • Over 9000 cancer patients have been treated, and 96000 dialysis treatments have been performed.

  • The number of healthcare packages has grown from 1393 to 1579.

Features of Punjab Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana

1. Insurance Coverage

Each beneficiary’s family would receive a cashless health insurance policy worth ₹5 Lakhs each year.

2. Treatment Packages 

1579 secondary and tertiary medical care service packages at public and accredited private hospitals in Chandigarh and Punjab are provided to the beneficiaries under AB SSBY. 

3. Pre-Existing Disease Coverage

Pre-existing diseases are covered, and the treatment package covers three days of pre-hospitalisation and fifteen days of post-hospitalisation expenses.

4. Free COVID-19 Treatment

Beneficiaries of Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana will get free treatment for COVID-19.

1. Financial Support

2.COVID-19 Insurance Coverage

During the COVID-19 crisis, the Punjab government announced that it would provide insurance to frontline employees. Safai karamcharis, sanitation employees, ward boys, physicians, ASHA workers, specialists, paramedics, nurses, and other healthcare personnel are all included. In the event of an accident, the recipient receives compensation of ₹50 Lakhs. However, this scheme went into force on April 30, 2020, and was only valid for 90 days.

Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana Cards
