The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), established in 1957, was restructured on November 1, 2010, to enhance efficiency and comply with the Electricity Act, 2003. This restructuring led to the formation of TNEB Limited as a holding company, with two subordinate entities: Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) for generation and distribution, and Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Limited (TANTRANSCO) for transmission.
Further reforms in 2024 aimed to specialise operations. On June 27, 2024, TANGEDCO was renamed Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL), focusing solely on electricity distribution. Simultaneously, two new entities were established: Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited (TNPGCL) for fossil fuel-based generation, and Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL) for renewable energy initiatives.
Today, TNPDCL manages all consumer-facing activities, including billing and customer service, while TNPGCL and TNGECL oversee generation. The term "TNEB" now refers only to the holding company and is no longer used for operational purposes.
The TNPDCL website accepts a variety of payment methods. Choose whichever option is most convenient for you and pay your Tamil Nadu Electricity Board bill. Debit card, credit card, UPI payments, wallet, and net banking are just a few of the major payment alternatives available on the TNPDCL app and website.
Do not put off paying your electricity bills because it may cause you to lose power, which will disrupt your work and daily routine. Furthermore, paying these bills on time assures that there are no penalties or late fees on the unpaid payment. You can pay your TNPDCL electricity bill using multiple secure methods, including the official website, UPI apps, BBPS platforms, and authorised digital wallets:
Visit the official TNPDCL QuickPay portal: https://www.tnebnet.org/qwp/qpay or the TNPDCL official website payment section.
Enter your Consumer Number or Acknowledgement Number and captcha.
View your bill details and amount due.
Choose Debit Card as your payment option.
Enter your debit card details (card number, expiry date, CVV).
Authenticate the transaction via OTP (One-Time Password) sent by your bank.
After successful payment, you will receive a confirmation and can download the receipt.
Note: Debit card payments are processed securely using PCI DSS-compliant gateways.
Follow the same initial steps as debit card payment on the TNPDCL portal or trusted apps like Bajaj Finserv or Paytm.
Select Credit Card as your payment method.
Enter your credit card details (card number, expiry date, CVV).
Complete the transaction by authenticating with OTP from your bank.
Save or download the payment receipt after confirmation.
Note: Credit card payments are widely accepted and processed through secure payment gateways.
Open your preferred online wallet app (e.g. Paytm Wallet, MobiKwik Wallet).
Navigate to the Electricity Bill Payment or Bill Pay section.
Select Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNPDCL) as your service provider.
Enter your Consumer Number and fetch the bill.
Choose wallet balance as the payment mode.
Confirm the payment; the amount will be deducted from your wallet balance instantly.
Receive confirmation and digital receipt in the app.
Note: Wallet payments offer quick transactions and sometimes cashback offers.
Open any UPI-enabled app (BHIM, Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm UPI).
Use the Scan & Pay feature or enter the UPI ID provided by TNPDCL or the payment platform.
Alternatively, on TNPDCL’s official QuickPay portal, select UPI as the payment method.
Enter your Consumer Number to fetch the bill.
Confirm the payment amount and authorize the transaction using your UPI PIN.
Payment is instant, and you will receive confirmation and receipt.
Note: TNPDCL also sends UPI payment links via WhatsApp for eligible consumers.
Log in to your bank’s net banking portal or visit the bank branch.
Choose Fund Transfer and select RTGS or NEFT.
Enter TNPDCL’s beneficiary details (available on TNPDCL’s official site or bill payment portal).
Enter the bill amount and your Consumer Number in the remarks or beneficiary reference field.
Complete the transaction.
Keep the transaction receipt for reference.
Note: RTGS/NEFT payments may take a few hours to reflect; verify payment status on the TNPDCL portal after 24 hours.
If you reside in Tamil Nadu, checking your TNPDCL electricity bill status is a simple process. You can use official digital platforms to verify your current dues in a few easy steps.
To check your bill status online, visit the official TNPDCL portal at www.tnebnet.org.
Navigate to the 'Billing Services' or 'Quick Pay' section.
Enter your consumer number (found on your meter card or previous bills).
Click on ‘View Bill’ to see your current outstanding amount and due date.
Note: You can also make payments directly from this page if your bill is due.
In addition to the TNPDCL website, you may use UPI-based apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, or Paytm under the ‘Electricity’ section. Simply select TNPDCL or Tamil Nadu EB as the provider and enter your consumer number to fetch bill details.
Note: These platforms provide a reliable and instant view of your bill status but always cross-verify payments through the official website or payment receipt.
Your TNPDCL consumer number is a unique 9–12 digit number found on the white meter card or any previous electricity bill issued by the board.
To check your bill amount, visit the official TNPDCL website at www.tnebnet.org. Enter your consumer number under the ‘Bill Status’ or ‘Quick Pay’ section to view your current dues.
Consumers do not need to manually calculate the bill. The amount is auto-generated and viewable via the official TNPDCL portals based on your consumption and meter readings.
After making the payment on the TNPDCL official website or authorised channels, you can download your receipt from www.tnebnet.org. Use the ‘Payment History’ or ‘Quick Pay’ confirmation page to access it.
You can contact TNPDCL by calling their official customer service number: 9498794987. This number also supports WhatsApp services for payment links and queries. Always keep your complaint number for tracking.
